Quizzes
You may earn up to 200 points from quizzes. There are 6 quizzes. Quizzes are worth 25-40 points depending on the topic for a total of 200 points. There are typically 10 to 15 questions per quiz. Questions are worth between 1 and 5 points. Quizzes are assigned on Fridays or Saturdays and due one or two weeks from the following Monday. I will not accept any late quizzes.
Practical Assignments
You may earn up to 175 points from Practical Assignments. Each Practical Assignment is worth 25 points except for #7 which is worth 50 points. You may drop ONE of the first SIX Practical Assignments. Your best five out of the first six with be counted towards a total possible 125 points. Total possible points for all seven Practical Assignments is 175 points. You may not drop practical assignment #7. It is somewhat like a final project. There may be some extra credit to earn beyond the 175 possible points.
Discussion Forums
You may earn up to 150 points from posting to the Discussion Forums. There are four discussion forums on the course site. Postings that are relevant and appropriate will be given 1-10 points with one exception: posting to the Course Orientation Discussion will be worth 50 points. You may earn the remaining 100 points for posting to any of the other forums. I will provide you a partial grade roughly halfway through the semester to give you an idea where you stand. The most active students will probaby have earned roughly 50 points halfway through the semester.
Midterm and Final Exams
The midterm and final exams will be cumulative. The midterm is worth 200 points and the final exam worth 250 points. The midterm will have approximately 40 questions, and the final example will have approximately 50 questions.
Therefore, you may earn a maximum of 975 points plus whatever extra credit your earn for the semester. See the Syllabus for grading rubrics.
